Cliff Avril has made a profound impact in Haiti through his ongoing philanthropic efforts. Inspired by his parents’ resilience, Avril has spearheaded several initiatives to uplift communities in Haiti.
In the rural town of La Chanm, Avril’s foundation built a school that now educates more than 500 children. The project, which took two years to complete, included constructing three hurricane- and earthquake-resistant buildings, each with multiple classrooms. The vibrant blue school was a collaborative effort, with community members choosing its color and participating in its construction alongside Cliff and some of his NFL friends.
In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Matthew in 2016, Avril pledged to build a home for every sack he recorded that season. He fulfilled this promise by funding the construction of 12 new homes, providing families with safe and permanent housing.
In addition, Avril’s foundation supported an orphanage by supplying clean water for two years, addressing a critical need in areas lacking access to potable water.
Avril also introduced American football to Haitian youth by hosting football camps, exposing them to the sport and its values. Pitching in on the effort were Miami Dolphins cheerleaders, who introduced cheerleading to local youth during one of the visits to the island.
From 2016 to 2019, Avril’s foundation organized annual trips to Haiti, during which they hosted mobile health clinics across the region that continued to serve residents quarterly. The trips were paused in 2019 due to political unrest but left a lasting impact on the communities served.
In addition to his foundation’s direct efforts, Avril has collaborated with organizations like World Central Kitchen, Hope for Haiti New Story Charity and WE, amplifying the reach and effectiveness of humanitarian aid in the region. Through these endeavors, Cliff Avril has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to improving the lives of Haitians, honoring his father’s legacy, and fostering hope and opportunity in the country.
When asked about his work in Haiti, Avril has said, “No matter what your circumstances are, it’s always good to give back. You should always do it from your heart. Giving back is how you make the world a better place.”
